With coming of the end of the month, Socktober and the sale are coming to an end! Saturday 29th will be the last day of the sale, so hurry along for a bargain! I haven't done too well with my socks for Socktober, I started 2 pairs, one on double points and one magic loop. Both first socks are done, and both second socks are on the needles, but only as far as the cuffs! Sharon has 3 pairs on the go, one on double points, and she's trialling working on both socks together (20 rows on one, 20 rows on the other). So far so good, she enjoying the thought that the pair will be finished pretty much together! In terms of completed socks though, both of us haven't made it this month, but there's always next month! How about you, did you finish your socks? Please post pictures on the Facebook page so we can see! This week has also seen a Rico delivery, with this loveliness... 8 beautiful new shades of Creative Melange DK, a colour changing yarn that's 53% virgin wool and 47% acrylic. 50g balls and 200m on a ball and will knit up to DK patterns for stunning jumpers or accessories!
Work is still happening to get us ready for the Christmas Fayre (on the 25th November 6-8pm for your diaries!) . Sharon is knitting away on the nativity - only the sheep, Joseph and Mary to go! The little stockings are coming along too, with 9 almost finished! Tinsel hedgehogs and baubles are virtually finished as well. A quick last admin job, please note that the sock knitting class has had to be postponed, and will take place on the 18th. If you missed out, there are still one or two spaces available, book now via the shop! Jen ~x~

It's been an exciting week here at Avicraft Wool, with the delivery of our winter James C Brett order, 6 bags full of yarny goodness! There is lots of baby yarn in this order, Baby Supersoft 4 Ply in white, cream, pink and lemon, Baby Supersoft DK in white and lemon. There is much Supreme Baby, including the 4 new beautiful shades The photo really doesn't do them justice! We've got new shades in the Twinkle, a lovely DK yarn with a single metallic iridescent thread of running through. They are really rich jewel tones, and perfect for a Christmas jumper for both adults and children. Plenty of new patterns came too, and if you're a crocheter looking for cute toy and blanket patterns, there may well be one for you here. Cute stuffed lions, flamingos, reindeers, snowmen, elephants, even a giraffe made with chenille yarn for a quick but stunning make. Lastly, I couldn't not show you this crochet pattern for an out of the world baby blanket! There is also 2 patterns for alien toys that complement the pattern so well! That's all for now as I have to try to find homes for everything, it wont be easy!
Jen ~x~ With the temperatures cooling, all my knitted things are slowly coming out. Socks came out in September as I can't abide cold feet. My hand knitted jumpers came out last week, and this weekend I hunted for my shawls and scarves. I decided I needed something new to cover my shoulders whilst I'm here in the shop that doesn't fall down when I'm helping customers find the right wool. Much perusing of the pattern books later, I have my selection : this pattern from Sirdar with the yarn I've had my eye on since it came in, Sirdar Aura in these beautiful blues and purples. I'm taking a gamble here... The pattern only comes in one size, and I am rather larger than a one-size-fits-all garment. I'm hoping that by knitting it in a chunky (instead of the double knit the pattern calls for) and 6mm needles it will come out a good size. I'll keep you posted!
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you all about Socktober, our month long celebration of woolly socks! The sock knitting class is this Friday, and would be the perfect opportunity to learn to knit socks or learn a new way of doing them - Sharon has been enjoying knitting her socks magic loop since I showed her earlier this year. There's still a 10% discount on all our sock yarn, and if you add a picture of your knitted socks on Avicraft Wool's Facebook page you could be in the running to win a ball of Debbie Bliss Rialto Sock Yarn in the colour of your choice! So, book a class, or buy some yarn and make this the best Socktober yet! Jen ~x~ Our winter sale is still happening here at Avicraft Wool! We still have lots to browse through in our sales boxes, with prices kept simple : £3.00 for 100g balls and £1.50 for 50g balls. Merino lace 25g balls are also £1.50 In other news, preparations for the Chatterton Village Christmas Fayre on Friday 25th November are in full swing, with Sharon making an array of Tinsel hedgehogs, and I'm making stocking tree ornaments. Sharon is using a King Cole pattern to make the array of hedgehogs in a variety of colours. We both agree that this one knit in the colour "Foxy" is the cutest! I am using a pattern from the King Cole Christmas Crochet Book 2 to make these adorable mini stockings, just right to use as tree decorations for Christmas. I'm using James C Brett Twinkle and King Cole Glitz in festive colours to make them, 3 down, many more to go! Also this week, we took delivery of the latest Knit Now and Crochet Now magazines, which are now available to buy in store. We have a feature in Knit Now this month, look out for us, and don't forget to use the 10% discount card inside on any purchases of Chunky and Super Chunky!
