It's been a busy week here at Avicraft wool as we prepare to do the big Summer Switcharound and stock take next week! We will be in chaos as we bring out all the summer yarns and cottons, and put away the more wintery yarns until next winter. The shop will be open as usual during the week but please bear with us about the appearance whilst the Switcharound is going on! We have also had a gorgeous Rico delivery this week. If you love vintage shades then these new colours of the popular Creative Sport DK will be right up your street! It's one of Sharon's favourite yarns because of the way it knits up and washes. Rico are now selling this yarn in 50g balls rather than 100g but the price works out roughly the same ( 15p difference). Its a 50% cotton/acrylic blend with an impressive 145m on a 50g ball. It also has standard DK tension of 22stitches and 28 rows for 10cm so can be used for most DK patterns! We also have unpacked these 2 fresh summery shades of a new yarn, Creative Melange Lace, which we will be making up into kits with the pattern for the lovely wrap or shawl pictured. Creative Melange Lace is unusual as it is a 95% cotton (5%polyester) lace weight yarn. We have 2 speckled shades to choose from, a lovely zesty green or a classic neutral with mochas and greys. We also have something unusual for the embroiderists (if that is what you call someone who enjoys embroidery) among you! These great printed tablecloth kits with all threads included in a variety of floral designs, ready for you to stitch a lovely addition to your home, or a great gift! That's all for now as I'm hoping to finish the parts of my chicken made from a King Cole pattern using their Tinsel yarn before the great switcheroo next week. I'm finding it much more enjoyable than I had first thought actually, the Tinsel yarn is surprisingly soft, and once you trust that you are making stitches even if you can't see them progress is quite swift!

This week we are starting a new loyalty scheme at Avicraft Wool! We have these beautiful bags for your wool purchases, but with an added extra. When you buy a bag for £1, you get a 10% discount on your purchase, and 10% off subsequent purchases if you reuse the bag. We are also very proud to announce that we now have a selection of 26 shades of the very popular yarn from Stylecraft, Special DK. Its a wonderfully soft 100% acrylic yarn, with a nice 295m/322 yds on a 100g ball. It's just perfect for colourful baby blankets as it's machine washable! There are free patterns on the Stylecraft website. . Also by Stylecraft, we now have in stock their new season yarn, Mystique. This is such an unusual yarn it needs to be seen! Sharon is currently casting on a blue top with it and is finding it very soft, as it runs through the fingers very smoothly. It knits up on 7 and 8mm needles for a quick knit. It is made from 70% polyester and 30% viscose, and has 107m on a 50g ball. Have a great weekend!
Jen ~x~ This week we have received a Sirdar delivery... There is always a lot of excitement when a delivery comes in, as we explore the lovely balls of wool and new patterns that have come to us. This delivery contained a lot of pattern books filled to the brim with stunning patterns. They are really good value for money too, as they contain around 20 designs, with everything from boys jumpers and girlie cardigans to sleeping bags and accessories! You can get yourself one book and knit everything for a really stunning baby gift! The delivery also contained a brand new yarn, called Rascal. It's base is the very popular Snuggly DK but Rascal is dyed in beautiful multicolour tones. It is 55% nylon and 45% acrylic which means it's machine washable and able to be cool tumble dried too, ideal for baby clothes! Argh, that baby waistcoat! Its just too cute for words! To make way for the new yarns, we've decided to add Sirdar Snuggly Bubbly to the £1 basket. Its very soft yarn with tiny pom poms that give it a very distinctive look. its a fun yarn and running low, so if you want to take advantage of the £1 price tag, come along soon! Lastly, if you like bargains and crocheting homewares, we've decreased the price of James C Brett Noodles - a chunky yarn that has a very unusual knitted construction which makes it perfect for crochet, especially things like bowls and rugs. Its now £3.00 instead of £4.00 That's all for today!
Jen ~x~ The bunnies have had to wait this week as I have been swimming in buttons! Anyone who has come into the shop will know that we have many, many buttons! Some are in tubes on the wall, others in boxes sorted according to colours, and yet more in drawers and boxes on the counter. Sharon and I had visions of rainbowtised button tubes behind the counter, showcasing the massive array of colours we have and making the most popular buttons easier to find. It has turned out to be quite a big job! Lots of tubes are being emptied ready for new buttons, lots of buttons need to be sorted into shades (and my goodness some of those shades are similar!) Work is still ongoing, I shall show you a picture once its beautiful again!
In other news, with all the uncertainty of Brexit and inflation we've decided that we would like to reward our customers with a special offer on Sirdar yarns, which have all been reduced in price. So now might be the time to knit a lovely Snuggly baby jumper, or yourself a Harrap Tweed Dk cardigan! Time to get back to the buttons! Jen ~x~ |
